VoiceTyping

Voice to text for Windows that gives you clean, ready to send text

Speak naturally on your PC and get text without the ums, with real punctuation and paragraphs. VoiceTyping runs in Edge and Chrome, installs to your Start menu and taskbar as a web app, and its extension types into Outlook on the web, Gmail, Teams on the web, Slack, Notion, Google Docs and any other text field on the web.

How VoiceTyping works on your Windows PC

VoiceTyping is a web app, not a native Windows program. Here is exactly what that gives you.

  • In the browser, open voicetyping.ai/app, press the mic button or your shortcut, talk, and copy the cleaned text.
  • As an installed web app, VoiceTyping gets its own window and icon, sits in your Start menu and can be pinned to the taskbar.
  • With the extension for Edge and Chrome, a mic button appears in every text field on the web and the cleaned text goes where your cursor is.

For desktop programs such as Word for Windows or the Outlook desktop app, you dictate in the VoiceTyping window and paste the result with one copy. Shortcuts work while the VoiceTyping window or a browser tab with the extension is active. There is no system-wide hotkey for other Windows programs.

Set up voice to text on Windows

  • Create your account and open voicetyping.ai/app in Edge or Chrome.
  • Allow the microphone when the browser asks. You do this once.
  • In Edge, open the menu, choose Apps, then Install this site as an app. In Chrome, click the install icon in the address bar.
  • Right click the VoiceTyping icon in the Start menu and pin it to the taskbar.
  • Add the VoiceTyping extension to Edge or Chrome for writing in web apps.
  • Choose your default style and language, and add your names and product terms to the dictionary.

VoiceTyping compared with Windows Voice Typing (Win+H)

Windows Voice Typing opens with Win+H, costs nothing extra and types into almost any Windows program. It has automatic punctuation, and for quick notes it does the job. It still types what you said: fillers, repeats and changed minds end up in the text, and there is no way to make a reply sound like an email or a chat message. VoiceTyping cleans that up.

Windows Voice TypingVoiceTyping
Cost Included with Windows From 7 USD per month billed yearly
Where it types Almost any Windows program Browser, installed web app, any text field on the web through the extension
Fillers and false starts Kept in the text Removed
Punctuation Automatic punctuation option Punctuation, paragraphs and lists added for you
Self-corrections ("at 3, no, at 4") Both versions typed Only the final version
Tone per app One output Email, Chat, Document, Notes and custom styles
Your names and jargon No editable dictionary Personal dictionary and snippets
Edit by voice Basic commands "Make it shorter", "more formal", "make it a list" and more

Use Win+H for a word in a desktop program. Use VoiceTyping when what you dictate goes to a client, a colleague or a document.

Keyboard shortcuts on Windows

The extension and the web app use the same shortcuts. These are the defaults, and you can change them in Edge at edge://extensions/shortcuts, in Chrome at chrome://extensions/shortcuts, or in VoiceTyping settings.

ActionDefault on Windows
Hold to talkHold Alt + Shift + Space
Toggle recording on and offAlt + Shift + D
Insert last result againAlt + Shift + V
Undo last insertAlt + Shift + Z

Hold to talk keeps it simple: hold, speak, release, done. Toggle is better for longer answers when you want both hands free.

More than raw transcription

  • Filler words, repetitions and false starts removed before the text appears.
  • Styles that match the app: short and friendly for chat, structured for email, full paragraphs for documents.
  • Voice commands such as "new paragraph", "delete last sentence" and "translate to Spanish".
  • A dictionary and snippets, so "my calendar link" becomes your real link.
  • English plus Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Dutch and more, with automatic detection.
  • History you can search, export on Pro, or switch off.

Most people type about 40 words per minute and speak about 130 to 150. With clean output, you keep most of that speed. Learn how AI voice typing works, compare plans on voice typing app pricing, or set up dictation software for teams for your office.

FAQ

Is there a Windows desktop app to download?

No. VoiceTyping runs in Edge and Chrome and installs as a web app with its own window in the Start menu and taskbar. The extension types into text fields on the web.

Does it work in Word and the Outlook desktop app?

You dictate in the VoiceTyping window and paste the cleaned text with one copy. If you use Word or Outlook on the web, the extension types into them directly.

Does it work on Windows 10 and Windows 11?

Yes. Any PC with a current version of Edge or Chrome and a microphone can use it.

Is it more accurate than Win+H?

The recognition of what you say is comparable for clear speech. The difference is what happens next: VoiceTyping removes fillers, fixes punctuation and formatting, applies your dictionary and writes in the style of the app.

Can my company roll it out to everyone?

Yes. The Team plan has a shared dictionary and styles, admin seat management, central billing with invoices and a per seat usage report, from 3 seats.
